Fiberglass channels are structural shapes made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) or glass fiber reinforced polymer (GRP). They are widely used in corrosive environments, such as chemical plants, wastewater treatment facilities, marine applications, and more.

Fiberglass channels offer many advantages over steel or aluminum channels, such as:

Corrosion resistance: Fiberglass channels resist most acids, caustics, salts, and other chemicals that can damage metal channels. They also do not rust or corrode over time, which reduces maintenance costs and extends service life.

Lightweight: Fiberglass channels weigh about 75% less than steel channels and 30% less than aluminum channels1. This makes them easier to handle, transport, and install. It also reduces the load on the supporting structures and foundations.

High strength: Fiberglass channels have high tensile and flexural strength, which means they can withstand high loads and stresses without breaking or deforming. They are also impact resistant and can absorb shocks and vibrations.

Dimensional stability: Fiberglass channels do not expand or contract significantly due to changes in temperature or humidity. They also retain their shape and size under constant load and stress. This ensures a consistent fit and performance of the channel system.

Flame retardant: Fiberglass channels are available with fire retardant resin systems that meet ASTM E84 Class A standards. This means they have a low flame spread and smoke development index, which enhances safety and fire protection.

Electrically non-conductive: Fiberglass channels do not conduct electricity, which eliminates the risk of electric shock or arc flash. They also do not interfere with electromagnetic signals or radio frequency transmissions.

Fiberglass Channel Types and Specifications

Fiberglass channels come in various types, sizes, colors, and resin systems to suit different applications and requirements. Some of the common types of fiberglass channels are:

U channel: A U-shaped channel with two parallel flanges connected by a web. It is used for framing, bracing, supporting, and connecting components.

Hat channel: A U-shaped channel with an additional flange on the bottom of the web. It is used for mounting to flat surfaces, such as walls or ceilings.

I beam: A channel with two parallel flanges connected by a narrow web. It is used for spanning long distances, supporting heavy loads, and resisting bending.

Rectangular tube: A channel with four closed sides. It is used for routing and insulating wires, cables, and tubing. 90° angle: A channel with two perpendicular flanges. It is used for reinforcing corners, joining sections, and creating frames.

The specifications of fiberglass channels depend on the type, size, resin system, and reinforcement of the channel. Some of the common specifications are:

Parameters Data
Thickness: The thickness of the flange or the web of the channel. It ranges from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch.
Width: The width of the flange or the web of the channel. It ranges from 9/16 inch to 6 inches.
Length: The length of the channel section. It ranges from 10 feet to 20 feet.
Outside diameter: The outside diameter of the rectangular tube channel. It ranges from 1 inch to 4 inches.
Color: The color of the channel surface. It can be white, black, red, gray, green, orange, beige, yellow, blue, or custom.
Finish: The finish of the channel surface. It can be smooth or textured.
Manufacturing process: The manufacturing process of the channel. It can be pultrusion or extrusion.
Resin system: The resin system of the channel. It can be standard polyester , fire retardant polyester , or vinylester fire retardant.
