Basalt Fiberglass rebar Concrete Reinforcement: A New Generation of Reinforced Concrete


Basalt Fiberglass rebar Concrete Reinforcement, or BFRP rebar for short, is a new type of composite material that can be used to reinforce concrete structures. BFRP rebar is made of basalt fibers, which are natural volcanic rocks, and resin, which are synthetic polymers. BFRP rebar has many advantages over traditional steel rebar, such as:
 

High strength and stiffness: BFRP rebar has a tensile strength of 1100 MPa, which is 3 times higher than steel rebar. BFRP rebar also has a modulus of elasticity of 50 GPa, which is similar to steel rebar.

Corrosion resistance: BFRP rebar is not affected by acid, alkali, salt, or moisture, and can withstand harsh environments. BFRP rebar does not rust or corrode, and can extend the service life of concrete structures.

Light weight and easy installation: BFRP rebar has a density of 1.9 g/cm3, which is only 1/4 of steel rebar. BFRP rebar can reduce the weight of concrete structures and save transportation and labor costs. BFRP rebar can also be easily cut, bent, and connected with special couplers or adhesives.

Electromagnetic neutrality: BFRP rebar does not conduct electricity or magnetism, and can avoid interference with electronic devices or magnetic fields. BFRP rebar is suitable for applications such as hospitals, airports, power plants, or railways.


BFRP rebar is also known as GFRP rebar (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer rebar), FRP rebar (Fiber Reinforced Polymer rebar), or composite rebar. BFRP rebar can be used for various types of concrete structures, such as bridges, tunnels, roads, buildings, dams, or seawalls.
